As a manager coaching an Employee is an important fact you should consider.

At most companies, coaching isn’t part of what managers are formally expected to do or what the company thinks employees needs to go through. Even though research makes it clear that employee's value learning and career development above most other aspects of a job, many managers don’t see it as an important part of their role.  Is it their role? It does not matter. What matters is that employee needs to be coached. What do we mean by "coaching"? What are the aspects of employee day to day that we need to consider and how?

The team manager role in agile development organization

“When it comes to implementing Agile, managers who are used to a “Command and Control” environment are going to be very uncomfortable.”.  "One of the hardest things for management in an Agile organization is to truly empower self-organizing teams because – by definition – it means that the manager is not part of the team…. The effective Agile Manager is the one who can accept the differences in the role…” How is this possible? Here’s a collection from some of the finest writers and agile leaders around the web discussing this exact subject. Enjoy.

The F1 Agile/Lean mindset - "you just don't know how good you are until you get there." Jean Alesi

"Qualifying is less than 2 hours away and missing Q1 means that you’ll start at the back of the grid(or not at all), a disaster for the championship. The car has got to be repaired and back out no matter what. Your call to action.
It’s a familiar story in racing and to the casual TV viewer the repaired car normally appears clean and polished for qualifying as if nothing had happened. Easy eh? Wrong, it’s far from easy, and it’s situations such as this when the Formula 1 mindset is most evident. What goes on inside those pit garages during times like these is truly, truly impressive teamwork."

The problem with bureaucracy organizations today, and the agile organization

The major benefit of a well-functioning bureaucracy is greater efficiency: A clear division of labor and an established hierarchy help your organization perform as one. But Bureaucracy is simply unable to cope in this new rapidly changing world. It was never intended to. It’s not agile enough. It’s not that bureaucracy is inherently bad. It’s just that bureaucracy doesn’t fit today’s world. So what are the characters of bureaucracy organization (which many of them are still around) and the gap towards today more agile needs organization?

Improving yourself and your team performance with the Johari Window Method

The Johari Window model is a simple and useful tool for personal development, group development and understanding relationship. It is also a good tool for illustrating and improving mutual understanding between individuals within a group. The Johari Window actually represents information - feelings, experience, views, attitudes, skills, intentions, motivation, etc - within or about a person - in relation to their group and between groups. This is a great coaching tool. In this Roojoom you can find this model explained a long with exercises needed.

Using diagrams with agile development

In agile development there diagrams too. “In today's world of agile delivery and lean startups, some software teams have lost the ability to communicate what it is they are building and it's no surprise that these teams often seem to lack technical leadership, direction and consistency.” Using diagrams have a good place in helping us collect and understand requirements as well as design our next development steps. They should be used as simple as possible and as a powerful tool to enable communication and collaboration of key information.  And there are a lot of them we can use.

Look out from the blinding halo effect - It influences how we feel and think about Business and personal performance.

The halo effect is a Cognitive bias in which our overall impression of something or someone is gathered from one element and influences how we feel and think about his or her character.  It impairs judgment. In the work setting, the halo effect is most likely to show up in appraisal of a subordinate's job performance or hiring processes. In the business world wise managers should know to be wary of the halo effect. They should look for independent evidence. Here’s a collection of quality links around the web taking reviewing this effect from the personal and business perspective. Enjoy.
