Everyone wants to deal with someone who “gets them”–someone
who really understands what they are going through. But do you really
understand their position? I mean fully grasp what all of this means to your
clients on a business and personal level? The word “empathy” as rendering of the German Einfühlung,
“feeling into”—is only a century old, but people have been interested for a
long time in the moral implications of feeling our way into the lives of
others. Empathic listening is a way of listening and responding to another
person that improves mutual understanding and trust.
